.
I have a problem.
I have a suck-arse metabolism.
No - it doesn't perform random sexual acts without warning - it's just too damn sluggish!!
I have recently plateaued on my workout plan. Not gaining any weight but not losing anymore. *sigh*
My diet is good - I'm doing a good amount of cardio and weights. But I've just stopped losing.
So - does anyone have any suggestions?
I'm open to all sensible non-knee-jerk options.
Thanks.
Damien.

you gotta work through the plateau....no way around it. keep going
most of the time it's because we eat some extra calories without even knowing. Just try keeping a stringent record of your food intake for a week and see if you can find the cuplrit.
Ketan - good suggestion - will give it a try all this week.
Joe - so do i keep doing what i am doing or do i work harder? My body is in pain as it is = not complaining - but ive only just started working with weights about 2 months ago.
I think that when trying to lose weight, one measures progress in terms of six months to a year. So you need to be much more patient than you have been. Remember, muscle weighs more than fat and the tissue beneath the fat may be changing to muscle and you just can't see it in terms of weight loss if that is the metric you are using.
Is your pain muscle pain or joint pain? Is it tendon pain? Pay attention to pain because it is your body's way of telling you that something is wrong. But I hear you and having done some sports, I understand that one can have quite a lot of pain and it can be nothing.
Also, people's metabolism's slow down as they age. I am now 52 and my usually really quick metatbolism has really slowed down. I used to be able to eat ice cream every day. Now I can't eat carbs at all and I work out for at least 30 minutes each day just to maintain my weight. So, how old you are also plays into the equation.
So, in conclusion, be more patient and keep working out. I agree with Ketan that extra vigilance is a good idea too. Look out for stuff like salad dressings, butter, condiments and the like that can be eliminated from your diet.
I like Ketan says. Also you have to just keep going, be consistent.
Have you thought about increasing the weight by a small amount? Or switch from free-weights to barbells or the machines... changing the workout could help. Or go less weight and more reps....
I'm at the same place you are right now.. but I'm sure its because of my diet.
DTNZ - Thisa happened to me when I lost 20kg - I seemed to stop at having lost 12......... I just stopped losing for about a month, nearly gave up and then it just started happening again! Patience!:)
What my dad has done for years to control his weight is to not eat supper. Or if he does eat something, only eat some fresh fruit.
I know this sounds very hard, but it can really help. Also, not eating past 7pm is a very good idea.
These are all good comments.
I agree with Joe - keep on working - it's just a speed hump - you'll get over it.
Of course, not wanting to appear to be a knee-jerk option, but you could always do a no-carb diet for 2 weeks. That should frighten your body into submission!
Okay - the whole theme seems to be paitence - I shall be patient and continue what I am doing - but I WILL pay more attention to my diet. Maybe something crept in.
Sue - I am not in BAD pain. As an ex-ballet dancer I know how to recognise the differences. Interestingly, its an overworked pain. I took a break for a week though and I think this was a good thing.
Watch this space guys - I'll keep you all updated and thank you so much for your suggestions. I will take ALL of them on board.
