They grow to the size of a minivan - weigh 2 tonnes - and are the number one predator in the sea.
And we can't live without them.
Sharks are apex predators whose job is to keep the mid level predators in check, thereby preserving the marine ecology.
Without them, we would have NO commercial fishing stocks.
Doesn't stop many killing them though.
Steven Spielberg has a lot to answer for.
I've been obsessed with these things since I was a kid - doesn't mean I want to swim with one LOL - but I think they are just a marvel of nature and evolution.
