.....UPDATE ... Susan Boyle - the delightful Ugly Duckling.....

.

***Update # 2*** I have been reading the comments of this angels performance on other blogs and have been COMPLETELY blown away at how so many posters are about "Wow - if only she did something with her hair / dress / looks / shoes etc".....

As GLBT we are often subjected to the most abhorrent form of superficial prejudice out there and yet, this one woman whose only dream was to come and sing in front of an audience is being simultaneously heckled by those who are usually being heckled themselves.

It must make some of these people SO proud to know that they can now feel like the bully who harassed them back in grade school by dumping on this woman.

I am stunned - ashamed - and saddened.

And yes Mr Hater using an anonymous GMAIL account - I did use the title Ugly Duckling in my post title. It's metaphoric and was a commentary on the audience and judges reaction to her as she stepped onto the stage.

Good Grief - as a community have we become intelligence-impaired as well?

I think she was wonderful and I Dreamed A Dream is one of my favourite Les Miz songs. I was able to listen and watch, eyes open and see past it. Others won't.

I can only speak for myself, but i think it goes beyond our community and much more a commentary on society in general.

Wanna be famous? Better be pretty. If not, better have a thick skin and be willing to make jokes about your shortcomings.

This kind of prejudice has gone back further than Monroe and Crawford. Even Dietrich was airbrushed.

Susan Boyle, like Paul Potts before her, is an underdog. But for the sake of seeing her really succeed, sadly the reality is that it isn't enough that she sounds pretty.

I couldn't agree with you more! I was crying at the beauty and depth of both Susan's performance and her dream becoming a reality. I takes tremendous courage to stand in front of others and be judged, but Susan had no fear. Her talent and her spirit shine in that video.

Let the haters hate and let the bitchy queens bitch. While they bitch and hate, truly talented people will work hard to fulfill their dreams. Susan is a prime example of that.
