My nan is suffering from oxygen deprivation - the side effect of which is memory loss.
She has trouble following conversations - and if you leave the room, say to go to the toilet, then come back, she thinks you are walking in for the first time.
It is so sad.
My Nan is 84 - and she has always been such a vital person - but the lung cancer and the subsequent treatments have totally robbed her of that vitality.
She has lost a lot of weight and is a shadow of herself.
I am now torn between going now - when she may not remember it - and waiting until the funeral to support my mother and cousin.
I have done palliative care before - and lost people I cared about - but for some reason this just seems so much harder - and I think my current level of depression is making it harder.
For all of you who read this - SMOKING IS NOT WORTH IT !!!
Please - take care of yourself and spare your family and loved ones the pain that my family is going through right now.
My appreciation to all of you who have sent thoughts my way.

Damien,
Whatever happens, my thoughts are with you & your Mum.
Thank you very much QH.
Damien,
No matter how large a train wreck your nan's health is....go now.
It's not whether she will remember you...it will be you supporting her.
You may catch her in a moment of lucidity.
Best,
Daniel
We are born in a smoke free world and it is just right that we strive to offer our children the same kind of environment. Be involved and help empower everyone by taking part in the yearly WORLD NO TOBACCO DAY which will be on May 31st!
