............Star Trek...........The Review............................

Rest assured - no spoilers here that would give plot bits away.

Needless to say IT KICKED ARSE !!!!!!!!!!!

Now remember - I am a hard core old school trek geek with the novels, ships, dvd's, props and everything else that goes with it AND I still loved it.

This was a stylish reboot - excellently done with an amazing respect for what has come before whilst still making it new and fresh. JJ - you did good mate.

Here we go...........................

  • Chris Pine as Kirk - Awesome portrayal and he really captured the fire and lust of the original Kirk whilst also bringing a new sense of self to it. And seriously so hot!!
  • Zachary Quinto as Spock - The will never be Oscars for Sci-Fi or Trek - we all know that - but Quinto nailed it as Spock - from the conflicted nature to the voice and use of language right down to the stance and the "eyebrow" - AND Quinto is uber hot - nice.
  • Karl Urban as Leonard "Bones" McCoy - DeForest Kelley would be proud. He brought all the nods to the irascible curmudgeon that was the original Bones but also brought a quiet determination to the role. Awesome.
  • John Cho as Sulu - Inspired casting. Cho nailed it. Right amount of Original Sulu whilst bringing his own "inexperience" to the character. And he can kick arse in a combat scene - and he uses a sword :)
  • Anton Yelchin as Chekhov - I liked Anton in Huff and thought he was a really fine up and coming actor - for the first hour though he annoyed me - but only until I *got* what they were doing with him. He is a young genius - like the Original Checkhov was supposed to be.
  • Zoe Saldana as Uhura - Again, inspired casting. She brings the intelligence, warmth and sensuality of the original Uhura whilst giving it the spunk of a 21st century woman. Loved her.
  • Simon Pegg as Scotty - The most amazing bit of casting EVER!! aside from Quinto. Simon Pegg nailed it as Scotty and brought a much appreciated comedic element to the film without being silly.
  • Bruce Greenwood as Captain Pike - Fine bit of casting. Nice scene between him and Kirk at the beginning of the movie.
  • Eric Bana as Nero - THIS was villain casting along the lines of Ricardo Montalban as Khan. I don't think another actor could have nailed it like he did. He was evil, bitter, and even sympathetic at points - amazing.
  • Ben Cross as Sarek - I have read the others found him wooden and uninspiring but I liked the casting choice. He mirrored the dignity that Marc Lenard brought to the role back in the Original series.
  • Wynona Ryder as Amanda - She was an adequate choice as Spock's mother. Her scenes are few but handled competently - not memorable but very okay.
  • Tyler Perry as the Commandant of Starfleet - No hint of Medea here - he project authority and radiated control. Small cameo part but very well done.
  • Leonard Nimoy as Spock - Having the Original Spock was genius and I am so happy with how well he was written in the storyline and how fantasticly it worked. It was sad to see how old Leonard Nimoy is now. I don't think he will be long for this world - will be a dark day when he leaves.
  • The Enterprise - Gorgeous - each and every part of it EXCEPT the engine room. I'll leave it there. I loved the bridge no matter what some of the other reviewers have said.
  • The story - slick - lively - layered - interesting - with depth and momentum.
There are a few scenes that are disturbing - one scene made me jump in my chair and put my hand to my heart. But overall - an amazing film with an awesome story.

Can not wait to see the Directors Edition on the DVD - it'll happen :)

I am not going to say any more because then I'll be giving stuff away.

Whether you like Trek or not - go. It's a good movie - a good Trek movie - and an excellent reboot.

Loved it.

Oh - and hubby and I had dinner before hand and it was a lovely evening together - he is so gorgeous.
