Shame about the pretty sisters Constitution and Independence. They truly were splendid in their day. My great-grandparents and grandparents crossed and cruised aboard them several times.
But amazingly, I remember my mom drinking a small glass of beer about an hour before she nursed my two youngest brothers. She always claimed it relaxed her and made we boys sleep better. She did it with me and my next youngest brother too, but I don't remember that since I was only two when he arrived. It didn't turn any of we four into lushes. At least not yet.
I had heard that Coca-Cola and other like it had cocaine as an ingredient in the early days. Did you know that 7-Up had lithium? I didn't know there were cocaine cough drops. How about suppositories for hemorrhoids?
