What The?!....How Does A JUROR Get A Book Deal!!......

Seriously - someone is going to have to explain this one to me.

I will now apologise for my potential overuse of the phrase "here's the thing"........

I haven't commented on the Trayvon Martin trial for one very good reason - there are better informed, far more intelligent people already doing so.  But this whole JUROR WITH A FUCKING BOOK DEAL SHIT has me completely flummoxed.

I am mystified as to how a Juror is legally allowed to profit from a murder trial?!?!?!?  Because here's the thing... for any NORMAL person it would be ethically, morally and socially ABHORRENT to profit from a murder trial - let alone a trial that dealt with the murder of a teenager and the subsequent racial issues that have rightly polarised a nation.

Now - and I could be wrong - but here in Australia I think it is illegal for jurors to profit from a trial in such a way.  How is it not illegal in America??  Surely Jurors and Judges should be above that sort of thing? And if not - why the hell aren't they !!??  Where are the standards people?

Not only that..the stupid woman has gone on CNN (albeit 'anonymously') and talked about it!

If for ONE moment this individual is under the impression that she will stay anonymous, then she really is brain impaired, or, she has a squad of people around her who are working very hard to convince her that they have her "best interests at heart" and have taken every step to maintain her privacy.

Really Rose??   Really!?

Because here's the thing ... there is going to be someone at this publishing house who WILL find out who she is.  It will more than likely be someone on the lower rung of the business, and they will be more than happy to sell the info to the New York Times, the Wallstreet Journal and USA Today.  Now, when this happens, it will be open season on this jackass and she will find that no amount of money will be worth the hell that she will undoubtedly bring down upon herself.

I am STUNNED that this is not only permitted, but clearly ENCOURAGED in America.  How the hell can a society permit the profiteering from a murder?!  I am hardly naive.  I understand the economic pull of a good story - especially a true story - but wouldn't you have to realise at SOME point that maybe, just maybe, this could be a very bad idea that in the long run is going to have SERIOUSLY shitty consequences for you??  Especially when you're whoring a book deal only 48 hours after the verdict?!

Here's the thing.  This trial made a complete farce of the American justice system.  And now this woman is going to make a complete farce of the aftermath by cashing in on the unjustified killing of a young man.

I am sickened by this.

I love my 2nd Homeland.  But this side of it is disgustingly inhuman.

Dear America - My 2nd Homeland....

Thank you for re-electing President Obama to a 2nd term as President of the United States of America.

You may not think it very important to an Aussie from Down Under; except for the following....

• Under President George W Bush, the 'Grandfather' immigration clause was removed.  My Grandfather was an American GI who fathered my mother.  Under the Grandfather clause, even without my birth being registered with a US Embassy I would have been permitted immigration. President Bush removed that.
• "Bubb" is American.  Whilst my tourist visa allowed me to stay for a generous amount of time, I had to eventually leave, bringing him half a world away from his family.  We had a wonderful life in Orlando, Florida, which had to cease due to my visa running out and being inillegible for any further extensions.
• With the Justice Department refusing to uphold/enforce DOMA, there is hope that Same Sex Marriage will finally pass at the Federal Level due to the Full Faith and Credit Clause under the Constitution ( I may not be quoting the correct section here.... bare with me ).
• If Same Sex Marriage does become accepted at the Federal Level, so does Same Sex Immigration.  "Bubb" and I can return to what we both consider... Home.

All those who voted for President Obama have my heartfelt gratitude.

I hope to once again be able to come "home" and see you all.

The Last 4 Years of the "White House".....

Simple thought that one should consider if one is going to vote in the upcoming Presidential Election of the USA...

Whilst President Obama was a little slow off the start, one can not deny his achievements - especially those for the LGBT community.  Nor can one deny the multiple messes he "inherited" from his predecessor.

Let us not kid ourselves re his opposition............. it is all about race... will always be about race.... and a bigot is a bigot is a bigot - if he hates the man in the Office due to his skin colour, he will hate anyone who does not fit into his White, Upper Class, Sexist world............

So - for some who have said they have to decide between "the lesser of two evils"... you need to put the bong down and go for a walk...

If you do not relect President Obama for a second term - then you should evaluate your sanity.

 Seriously.

For those who choose to "object on conscientious grounds by not voting" - you are spineless cowards who choose to remove themselves from the process but will no doubt then spend the next four years BITCHING about how stupidly people who DID vote chose to cast their vote....

....2 Confused....... My Take On The President's State Of The Union.....

........I'll preface this by saying I was a Hillary supporter all the way during the race.... I wanted that woman in the White House - she would've have been an amazing President - plus putting her in the big chair means she wouldn't have to run the country with her hand up Bill's arse like a ventriloquist with a broken dummy.

Hillary is cool.

President Obama........................................................... not so much.

BTW - I **refuse** to say Obama..... or Barack. He is President Obama. Let's remember the respect is to the OFFICE if not necessarily to the man and use the proper mode of address and not the one taught to us by CNN and FOX please ppl.

President Obama was elected on four words.... YES WE CAN.... CHANGE....

Now... he had HUGE things that he had to deal with when he first got into office. The country was NOT running smoothly nor had it been for a very long time. He had the wars and all their subsequent issues to contend with; economic crisi; DADT; et al..... so.......... the man had to put out fires. But it is HOW The President acted AFTER getting to the Office that worried me.

Now - I am a HUGE poli-junkie. I love politics. Politics give me major wood. President Obama got me hard during his great speech in the mall.......................................... I've needed poli-viagra ever since.

It appears that The President is determined to try to keep his job by not pissing off the other side of the political spectrum. And history has shown every time that an appeaser does not get reelected or - sorry - respected.

If one is elected on the platform of Change - one has to affect change. One has to aggressively pursue, fight for, and if necessary LOSE for change. One can not be elected on a platform of change and then go to the middle of the road..... and then make one small step to the right.. which is fundamentally what President Obama has done.

I do not believe his State of the Union speech was anything but more of the same.

President Obama has been deserted by the majority of his Democratic base. Republican moderates love him because he plays to their needs. Democrat moderates tolerate him because they still have hope in his moderateness evolving into the more progressive Democratic policies they are used to. I do not believe it would happen. Ever.

The measure of a President - is his first two years. Whether for ill or for better - how He (or She - I hope in the future) handles that first two years defines them. President Obama is a silent apologist. He has decided that given his unique status - First African American President - he must be cautious in his aggressiveness.

Cautious in his aggressiveness....................... two words not to be used in the same phrase.

Sadly, I believe President Obama has been spooked by the radical Right and their more militant soldiers of the Right Wing Press and the blatant racist elements in American society.

Many people are saying "Well, he promised to end DADT and he has.... so maybe he just needed some warm up time". Actually, President Obama did not end DADT. Public opinion; public pressure; military resourcefulness; military brain bleed; and the over the top shrieking of the right wing homophobes ended DADT. President Obama merely stood by as the process left in the dust.

Whilst I wanted Hillary in the White House, I was hopeful that President Obama's youthfulness, energy, passion for change, and unique status would spur him on to do amazing things for my second homeland.

It has not.

And now, when American genuinely needs change - genuinely needs progression - genuinely needs a President that cares for the health and welfare of ALL Americans - we as Americans (Myself included) have been given a President who got scared - and his fear made him an appeaser of the Republican Right.

Appeasers do not get reelected.

President Obama - I like you as a man - but I do not respect you as a President.

And that makes me very sad.

............now I have several black men (that's ok for a white aussie jew to say yes?) who read this blog............and hopefully by now you all realise that with the exception of hating on racists, I don't have a racist bone in a my body........... and I have a question for you..........

(1) Names.

Lafayette. Shaniqua. Latisha. Tomika. Dashaun.

I am wondering how these names are derived. To me they are completely foreign and somewhat - sorry - funny sounding. Considering I am a Down Under Jew - foreign is probably a good word to use - but seriously wondering where they names come from. Some are interesting. Some seem like a mouthful.

(2) Nigga

OK - this is what I know. Nigga was a term used during slavery and the years of segregation as a derogatory term for coloured men and women. Now........... my question...... why is there a segment of the African American community that are trying to "reclaim" that word?

To me - this is a bad word that describes and signposts two dreadful periods of American history - America being my 2nd home.

The period of slavery was a horrific affront against an entire people. Segregation was an affront to an entire people. With that in mind, I am baffled that rappers and a segment of the general Black community would try to reclaim this word and make it a positive thing.

To me - attempting to reclaim it means these people don't care about the history attached to the word. It would be like my people - Jews - trying to reclaim the word Holocaust. I can't imagine being with some Jews and someone saying "I'm having a Holocaust party. Bring a pot, I got the ovens on LOL"..... I mean OH MY GOD!!!!

So why would African Americans want to reclaim Nigga?? This is something that to me is a COMPLETE anathema.

Please - Toddy - Mecha - Sozo - ANYONE - explain this to me. I do not understand it.
