People Can Be Horrible....

...a bit of background about Bubb.

Bubb is my partner.  We have been together 12 1/2 years.  He is a man who would do anything for those he cares about and - in some cases - complete strangers who just need someone to step up.

For the last 18months Bubb has been living with increasing chronic neuropathic pain.  This has exacerbated his pre-existing depression and, to put it midly, he is suffering terribly.  Bubb is a big man, and we are considering gastric surgery for him.

Last Monday he had to go to the bank and do a basic transaction.  As he came out, he had a dizzy moment and fell.  As he fell he scratched the right side of his foot / leg / knee / thigh and elbow.  His hip (today) has a bruise the size of both of my hands.  He was bleeding, and the fall exacerbated his current pain.  5 people were in the immediate area.  All 5 laughed but not one offered to help him.  He tried to pull himself up using a pole next  to him.  He doesn't have the upper body strength anymore.  Sadly he lost his grip and fell back again onto his tailbone.  Again, no one helped him.  He sat still for a moment.  He ended up rolling to his knees and was able to slowly push himself up.  And it hurt him to do so.  Still, no one did anything.

He came home hurt, bloody and feeling humiliated.

He hasn't left the house in a week.  For 2 days he cried on and off.

*This* is the consequence of our inaction.

*This* is what can send someone to the edge of a bridge and have them jump.

*This* is the reason that the partners of people like Bubb control the medicine cabinet.

*This* is the consequence of our inaction.

Bubb is feeling better today.  Somewhat.  But it took a WEEK.

How would YOU answer the person who is the other part of your heart when they ask "Why didn't they help?"

My only response was "If I was there I would have picked you up."

It's not a good enough response.  You know why?.......... coz there were 5 other people on that day who did not pick him up.  Or even offer.

And their inaction could have resulted in an action from which there would be no reversal.

We must be better.

Shalom

Lisa Vanderpump Rules .....

.... and I blame Bubb for ruining me.

I have never watched a Real Housewives of *blank*.  Personally I detest reality tv.  It requires no talent other than a pair of pecs / tits and some alcohol.  Yawn.  I'm usually an Attenborough / History Channel / well written drama kind of guy.

Then Bubb introduced me to Vanderpump Rules.

The men are douches.  The women are the worst of female stereotypes.  But I watch it for Lisa.  Always perfectly put together.  Classy.  Elegant.  Never crass.  Always professional.  And gorgeous.

AND she gives TRUCK loads of cash and support to LGBT charities and many other worthwhile causes.... She truly is one of the 1% who actually gives back.

And did I mention she is fabulous?  Like, almost Lynda Carter fabulous.

I am ashamed.

But yes - I love Lisa Vanderpump.

Bubb Is In Hospital....

For 15 months, Bubb has been experiencing acute neuropathic pain.

On an average day Bubb's pain is around 6-7 out of 10.  The last fortnight he has had an acute attack of pain and its between 8-9 out of 10.

To say we have been exploring options is rather an understatement.  Today he had a lumbar puncture to explore THOSE options and is now resting uncomfortably in hospital.

We have seen a myriad of Doctors, Specialists, and Clinics.  I think Bubb has been prescribed every pain med legally available (with the exception of ketamine infusion which is now available in Australia apparently).  And his pain has not improved.

He is now mostly confined to the house.  Walking any significant distance is agony.  He cannot work.  He is even in pain whilst sitting.  Sleep is difficult.  The emotional toll on him is significant.

So if any of you are friends with a really good Doctor..... let me know..... I am willing to contact doctors anywhere for a nineteenth opinion actually.

The difficulty is that even now we still know so little about pain and how it can be caused and how to treat it.

I am very proud of Bubb though.  His sense of humour and his love haven't waned throughout this and you could easily forgive him if it had.

Take care all

2 Love ... For Bubb....

A man I realised a long time ago was the missing piece of my heart.....

I love you my Bubb.

Never knew I could feel like this
Like I've never seen the sky before
Want to vanish inside your kiss
Everyday I love you more and more
Listen to my heart, can you hear it sings
Telling me to give you everything
Seasons may change winter to spring
But I love you until the end of time

Come what may, come what may
I will love you until my dying day

Suddenly the world seems such a perfect place
Suddenly it moves with such a perfect grace
Suddenly my life doesn't seem such a waste
It all revolves around you

And there's no mountain too high no river too wide
Sing out this song and I'll be there by your side
Storm clouds may gather and stars may collide
But I love you until the end of time

Come what may, come what may
I will love you until my dying day
Oh come what may, come what may
I will love you

Suddenly the world seems such a perfect place...

Come what may, come what may
I will love you until my dying day

Leaving On A Jet Plane.....

No ....... not me........

Bubb today left on a Jet Plane to go home to the USA to help a friend of his who sadly has a cancerous tumour that has to be operated on.  He has no family so Bubb will be there to be his support.

Bubb is a good man and I am so very proud of him for doing this.  No one should have to go through this alone.

Hopefully, he is being served by one or more of the below men - or at least similar :)

Shalom all

What For You .... Was A 'Moment'? .....

In June of 2002, I flew to America to meet Bubb (my partner) in the flesh for the first time.  We first started chatting on the net to each other on ICU2 on February 24th 2002.

I am a terrible flyer.  I am claustrophobic and find the idea of a metal tube soaring 10kms above the earth terrifying.  (It took SEVERAL vodkas to make it across the Pacific).   I waited for a few hours in LAX, then boarded my flight to Atlanta.

When I landed in Atlanta, I had been awake for almost 30hours straight.  I was liquored up.  A wreck of nerves due to all the flying.  And I had TOTALLY forgot that my luggage was being forwarded on and I didn't have to go and re=check in.  So, what did I do?  I powerwalked from Terminal E at Atlanta airport the half mile to the baggage claim area.  I stood there for almost half an hour not understanding why my luggage hadn't arrived.

I went over to the customer service counter, and enquired when my luggage would come out as I had to check in for my next flight that left in 20 mins.  The lovely lady behind the counter - a matronly black lady with a beautiful smile  - looked at my ticket - gave me THAT look that only a Mother can give and said "Sir.  Your luggage is on your plane.  You didn't have to come all the way down here for that.  Did you not know that?"

I was too tired and too disoriented by this point to do anything but have tears start to pour down my face.  Yup.  Total mess.  And I'm an uglier crier.  Gently, she took me literally by the hand.  Took me to the counter.  To the head of the line.  And had them let the boarding gate know I was on my way.  She took me to security and got me fast tracked.  Gave me a hug and then sent me on my way.

I got to my departure gate 5 mins before boarding.  Bubb and I had an agreement that at each stop - LAX and ATL - I was to ring him to let him know I had arrived safely.  I called his number, and after a couple of rings it hung up on me.  I tried again.  Same thing.  The third time I tried it did it again.  I had now had enough.

Cue - Knots Landing moment.

I slammed the receiver down on the phone.  I actually stamped my foot with a well said "Dammit!!" - at which point, from behind a column, Bubb walked out with a grin from ear to ear having a chuckle to himself.  All my exhaustion, all my nerves and fears, all my frustration evaporated and I had "the moment".

I went up and hugged him.  And then proceeded to sit next to him on the plane to Orlando with a smile I could not repress.

That was one moment in my life that I treasure.  There are others.  But that is certainly one of the top 5.

11 1/2 years we have been a couple - through good times, horrific tragedies, my mental illness, financial ruin, and moving between three countries.  Somehow we have survived and continue to love each other and recognise we are each others best friends.

There are some non-traditional aspects to our relationship - but for the most part - we are just a couple in the burbs.  We complain about getting up for work each day.  Pay the bills.  Watch TV.  Have the occasional argument.  Make up.  Snuggle.  Be snooty with each other.  And be so wonderfully silly most of the rest of the time :)

Since February 24th, 2002 and all subsequent dates therein.

A 'moment' doesn't necessarily have to involve someone else.

I'll share a moment that was purely a singular moment soon.

But I hope you enjoyed my nostalgiac trip down memory lane.

Happy Birthday Bubb....

On the 24th of March, a"little while ago", in a galaxy not so far away, a wonderful man came into existence.

To me - his name is simply "Bubb".

He is the greatest love of my life.  My eternal soulmate.  My best friend.

Today he turns .... um......... 40 .... ish...... and I can not imagine a day without him.

When I first met Bubb, I was in a very bad place in my life.  Bubb took me away from that and helped me find the strength within to get better and to grow as a person.  Most importantly, he made me feel safe.

He is a man with a most generous spirit; a kind heart; a caring soul; and a wonderful sense of silly.

He makes me laugh and I enjoy his continued presence in my life.  He is an answer to a prayer and a constant in my life that I am always grateful for.

Happy Birthday Bubb.  I love you always, and may HaShem bless you in every way possible.  You are worth it.

Hugs n love
