.....2 Profile..... The Woman Behind Sex In Advertising

.............................The woman behind the campaign against the gay safe sex ad.....

............Make of her what you will..................

She's the Brisbane mother-of-three who's been in the middle of a media storm over condom advertising in Brisbane bus shelters this week.

And she admits that if she knew how the issue was going to flare up she might have thought twice about questioning why a Brisbane bus shelter - outside her church in Upper Edward Street - should feature an advertisement encouraging a gay couple to use a condom.

This safe sex advertisement has been pulled from Brisbane bus shelters after the Australian Christian Lobby complained it was offensive.

The safe sex advertisement at the centre of the media storm this week.

Wendy Francis is the Queensland director of the Australian Christian Lobby (ACL) and has shot to notoriety this week, with thousands of Australians labelling her homophobic.

Her bid to have the condom ads removed was originally successful, but after a public outcry, they were reinstated.

The comments created a whirlpool of debate about advertising, which Ms Francis said has been both positive and negative.

"I am not sure that I feel that I have been successful, but I think I have been true to myself," she says.

"I have been true to what I truly believe and it won't stop me complaining the next time an ad goes up and that will be whether it is gay or straight."

Who is Wendy Francis?
Ms Francis is married to Peter Francis, the senior pastor of the City Tabernacle Baptist Church in Brisbane.

Michael O'Brien, right, and his partner star in the ad.

Michael O'Brien, right, and his partner who star in the ad.

They have three, now-adult children and a number of grandchildren.

She's been the organiser of the Lord Mayor's Christmas Carols for several years.

Wendy joined the Australian Christian Lobby in January this year, and before that dipped her toes into the political waters by running as the number one Senate candidate for Family First in Queensland.

Her political career was perhaps best known for controversial comments on Twitter comparing gay marriage to 'legalising child abuse'.

However, she maintains that she's not homophobic, and says this week's efforts were part of a long-standing campaign to remove sexual ads of all persuasions from the public sphere.

"I started a Facebook page in March 2010 and it simply said "Outdoor Advertising Should Be G-rated," she says.

"And it is still up. And thousands of people joined up. So I thought, 'No', I am not alone, we're on to something."

In the beginning were condoms
Condom advertising - not condom use - was her first target.

"The first ad I complained about was a condom ad. It was an ad for The World's Thinnest Condom," Ms Francis says.

"In Brisbane they were not as offensive as they were in some of the other capital cities, but the huge words, 'world's thinnest condom', made my grandchildren ask what a condom was.

"I just thought, 'We are crazy. Our children from six years of age - who can start to read - will be sex-saturated in the culture we are developing."

Ms Francis said much of the sexualised advertising around is directed at young women, something else she objects to.

After condoms, she complained about the original 'Longer Lasting Sex' billboards about erection difficulties and then Vampire Diaries bus shelter ads outside a Brisbane school where two male vampires bit into the neck of a young girl.

Both times she won.

This week she wanted to again remove what she saw as sexualised advertising.

"My only thought was to remove an ad that was again speaking about sex and condoms. And this time it was bus shelters and billboards," she says.

It is fine for adults, Ms Francis says. But not for children.

"When a child is free to be in that space, I don't believe that advertising about sex, or condoms or any other sexual thing is appropriate for their "time slot", or where they are."

'One of the most open-minded'
Wendy Francis maintains she would have made the same objection if the bus shelter poster featured a heterosexual couple.

"I think it is wrong for me to not touch something because it is gay. I think that is totally wrong," she says.

She volunteers her hair stylist, Jac Vaessen, from Agapi Hair and Beauty at Spring Hill, as someone who will back up her claims, which he does.

"I went on to the (Wendy Francis is homophobe) website and said I am actually Wendy's hair stylist and I can let you know that if she was homophobic she definitely would not be coming to me," Mr Vaessen says.

"I have known her for about seven years and we have great conversations about things. I am also a gay dad. I have a child with a gay girlfriend of mine.

"We talk about these all things and she would be one of the most open-minded people that I know.

"She and her husband - who is the pastor at the big Baptist church on Wickham Terrace - I mean they really are quite amazing people."

When should children learn about sex?
Wendy Francis believes 12 or 13 is now too old for parents to begin talking their children about sex.

It should be earlier.

"I talked to my children very naturally about sex from a very young age. Each time they asked a question I answered them very honestly," she says.

But she is adamant it is a decision that should be left to parents, not companies.

"I think parents still should have the right to choose when their child is ready to be spoken to about safe sex."

She is seeking set guidelines for outdoor advertising.

"Television has managed to work out what it believes is a successful G-rated classification, so I would be very happy to follow the television model."

"So when children come home from school, there are children's programs on and a condom ad - for example - would not be appropriate.

"They would not show some of the ads that they show after 7.30pm at night – whatever time the classification sets – a condom ad, would not be successful.

"There is a time when a tampon ad is acceptable, for example."

......2 Cents Profile............ David........

Shalom 2 Centers. Today we have a profile that is near and dear to my heart.

"David" is a clinical depressive who has been living with the illness for over 15 years. I have often talked about my experiences but thought a look at how someone else lives with it would continue my desire to provide a more comprehensive look at this.

Please welcome David to the blog.

(2CW) Firstly David, thank you so much for doing this. I know this could be a little uncomfortable for you.

No worries. Thanks for having me.

(2CW) How long since you were diagnosed as a clinical depressive?

My diagnosis was actually in 2004 - but my psychologist and I can trace depressive traits back to my early teens.

(2CW) Clinical Depression affects different people differently. How does it manifest itself in your life?

My depression - which I call the beast - comes out in a few different ways. The number one symptom is a fatigue that I can only describe as hell. Think of the one time that you have been the most physically tired - multiply that by say 2 - and that is how I feel on most days when I wake up.

Every now and then I will have a day or two where my moods get very dark and I am really down. I have a hair trigger temper on those days which scares me. I worry about what I could do on a bad day.

I also experience intermittent short term memory issues and anxiety. All of these aren't exactly helpful in the workplace.

(2CW) My primary symptom is also fatigue. Can you expand on that?

It's hard to explain. I wake up tired. I am tired all day. I go home tired. I go to sleep tired. But the sleep doesn't help the tired. It is so frustrating. I can sleep 10 or 12 hours and still be wrecked. It's pretty crappy. Then on those days when the beast is active, it is worse because then I get the mental fatigue as well. On those days it's really hard.

(2CW) Are you on a treatment regime?

Yeah. I take an anti-depressant, an anti-anxiety drug and pop sleeping pills most nights. I get headaches all the time coz of how my body reacts to stress so I usually add a couple of pain relievers into the mix of pills at night. I am a human rattle these days.

The non medication part of my treatment plan includes exercise which I was told is really good for helping the body even up hormone and chemical imbalances in the brain. I don't smoke or do recreational drugs. And I watch my alcohol intake - but I'll bust that one every now and then :) - gotta have some fun.

(2CW) Are you "out"?

LOLOL - yeah I am - first as a gay guy - which was as breeze compared to coming out as a crazy :) Mental illness makes people run a mile.

(2CW) Did you lose any friends when you revealed you had CD?

Most of my friends bailed on me - which kinda helped me sort out who was real and who was shit. But yeah, they wouldn't deal with it. Coz - you know - it was hard FOR THEM. Like it wasnt hard for the guy walking around wanting to take the whole bottle of sleeping pills at home.

(2CW) I am really sorry to hear that.

At the time I was completely pissed that these people did that. I was like "Hey - dude with a deathwish - a little help?!" and the people that "loved" me bolted in the opposite direction.

(2CW) What about at work?

I am out to my boss and a few select people. I'm probably the only person in the office that can actually say a mental health day is a REAL mental health day. Thankfully the meds keep me mostly functional so I dont have to worry about having too many of those.

(2CW) Are you in a relationship? How is that going?

Yeah I have a long term partner. He has experience with it so he is pretty understanding and really supportive. On my bad days he makes me laugh and when I need to cry he takes me by the hand and leads me to the couch and holds me. Also, I'm like Oprah and totally do the ugly cry - complete with screwed up face, snot drops and drool - so he must love me :)

(2CW) You mentioned what your friends did, is that a gay reaction or a normal reaction?

Definitely a gay one. My family has been supportive. My straight friends are supportive and understanding. My gay friends at the time bolted like I was a syringe loaded with HIV. It was really bad. We have a higher than normal count of depressives in the gay community but gay people deal with it really badly. They are either totally freaked out by it - or want to try to one up you - their depression is worse than yours and you can't understand how hard it is for them to battle through. Those people usually do not HAVE it - but they want the attention.

Others find it hard coz they have it themselves. It can be really difficult to deal with someone elses depression when yours is kicking you in the nuts at the same time.

(2CW) Do you think people just really don't understand how much it impacts you?

Absolutely! A lot of people seem to think that depression is a just a "bad day at the office" and you feel a bit down- might have a cry but get over it. They don't understand that the depression impacts everything. It kills your sex drive, gives you crazy dreams, you have bizarre and really weird thoughts just randomly pop into your head, you forget how to do stuff. It is really huge when it's a bad day for me. I'll forgot peoples names, how to do something at work - I'll even forget whole conversations with my partner and he will have to talk me through what we discussed coz I'll have 100% no recollection of it.

Crying at a movie is not depression. Crying at the coffee ad where the chick leads the store guy to her house with the empty coffee jars holding candles - THAT's depression.

One thing that happened to me early on was suddenly "coming to" in the middle of the main shopping district in my home town at the time not knowing how I got there and having "lost" about 3 hours. That is depression.

(2CW) Since starting medication - has your depression improved?

Definitely - and if people reading this refuse to go on meds - tell them to pull their head out of their arse. This is not like other illnesses - you can NOT do this one on your own.

(2CW) What do you fear about your depression?

(1) My temper. I haven't had a fight or hit someone since high school. I am seriously concerned about if I could stop myself if I had a brain-break with someone who was pissing me off. Seriously worries.

(2) My depression devolving from Clinical to Manic. Clinical Depression is a mental illness that is about memory, emotions and "processing". Manic Depression is sanity punctuated by periods of complete insanity. Enough said.

(2CW) I know this probably hasn't been the easiest thing but I want to thank you for putting yourself out there and letting me interview you. I wish you well and hope that you beat the Beast.

Thanks Damien and all the best with your Monster too mate.

....A different perspective on how one illnesses affects one person from another. Clearly, as a community we have a long way to go with this one.....

.....Profile......... Adult Actor...... Mr Sean Storm...

.......for the same profile but with a couple of XXXtra pics - please go to The Pickle......

Today on 2 Cents we have a profile that I have been thinking about for a LONG time. I finally got up the courage and approached one of my fave porn stars of all time - Mr Sean Storm - and he has agreed to be profiled by little ol' me and I could not be happier.

I have been a fan of this guy for all of his career. His enthusiasm and obvious enjoyment for his job shows in his performances and puts a LOT of other "actors" in the porn biz to shame.
Sean started off in mainstream porn but eventually moved into bareback porn and started his own studio. He is also an escort who I have no doubt is in HUGE demand.

Controversial? Maybe - but let's meet the man behind that oh so delectable little bum.

Enjoy
Damien

(2CW) Firstly, allow me to gush - THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU !!! - after Joey Stefano you are my FAVOURITE bottom in porn. Agreeing to do a profile for me is just a HUGE thing and I appreciate you giving me your time.

WOW! I'm blushing a bit. I couldn't agree more with you about Joey Stefano. He was one of the first guys I used to beat off to when I first came out. Him, Kris Lord and Matt Gunther were the guys who did it for me.

(2CW) Now - tell us a little about yourself. Which part of the USA are you in and how did you get started in the Adult Business?

I live in Ft Lauderdale right now, but am originally from Peoria IL. I got started in the biz doing solo jerk-off stuff for Citiboyz Video back in 1999. My big break in the majors came with Centaur Films in 2001 when I shot MAN ACADEMY for them.

(2CW) Do your friends and family know what you do? How do they feel about it?

I am fortunate in that my family knows about my videos, and they have been incredibly supportive of my non-traditional career path. As with any caring parent, they just care about my safety and only wish the best for me. I would also say that all my friends know what I do, too. So I've been very lucky in that I haven't had to hide too much.

(2CW) Are you partnered? If so , is your partner in the biz and if not what does he think about it? If you are single? What do you look for in a man ? :)

Good news for any of my fans who wish to woo me: I am single. ;-)

What I look for most in a man, other than having an attraction to him, is someone who doesn't take himself too seriously. Men who are too wrapped up in their own egos don't appeal to me. At all.

(2CW) I read your are studying Film & TV production is that correct? How is that going?

That must have been an older interview, lol. I am no longer studying Film and TV. I realized I enjoy things in front of the camera too much. A dream of mine is to get a cameo part acting in an indie movie. So if anyone in South Florida is shooting a non-porn film, look me up. ;-)

(2CW) Tell us about your first porn scene. How was it? Were you nervous? Was it a positive experience?

My first porn scene was a solo for Citiboyz Video (FRATBOY SEAN & HIS ALL STARS). The director of the company was also just starting out, so we were both new to the porn scene and didn't have many nervous moments. But when I did my first fuck scene for a major studio (Centaur's MAN ACADEMY) I was beyond nervous. In fact, I was so freaked out that I got sick days before the shoot with a cold. But I healed up just in time for that first cock in my hole (Tuck Johnson..YUM).

(2CW) What do you think would be the biggest negative stereotype about adult performers?

That we are all dumb, drugged-out idiots. Granted, many are just that, but I've found that there are actually more solid men out there in the biz with brains that are successful beyond just the fuck stuff.

(2CW) Who are some of the performers / studios you have really enjoyed working with and why?

I really enjoyed working for Centaur, which is why I've done something like 7 movies for them. I also really liked Raging Stallion. Director Chris Ward had the most amazing way with models, and it was so much fun to work for him. As for models, Brad McGuire was fun to get creamed by, and Gavin Parker was also very fun to play around with when we boned each other in SLOPPY SECONDS.

(2CW) Without naming names - tell us about some of the NOT so great times you have had on set. What are your pet peeves when working on set?

The worst experiences I have had were with the gay-for-pay guys. I can't tell you how much it sucks to have a guy who needs to get hard looking at pussy magazines first in order to get hard enough to stiff me. Then a few minutes later have to wait for him to get hard again once it goes soft. There becomes such a disconnect that it becomes very difficult to carry on any conversation, let alone chemistry.

(2CW) You also escort. Was that a natural extension of being in films or did you do that BEFORE you got into films?

It was an extension of doing the films and stripping on the circuit.

(2CW) Does escorting keep you busy? Do you have mainly regular or one-visit clients?

I mainly see regular clients these days, though a couple times during the year I will put myself on Rentboy to attract new clients. But mostly my clients email me directly after having seen me in movies. "Doing" my fans are my favorite clients. They treat me well and we have fun, whereas an hourly guy who hires me who doesn't know I do porn usually does respect me like my fan-based clients do.

(2CW) Ever get stage fright with a client or on screen?

During those shoots there are so many time you stop and start that the initial trigger points that get you hard cease eventually. Thank GOD for little blue pills.

(2CW) You have a really sweet little bum. Is it genetics or did you do some serious time in the gym for that little piece of bubble? :):)

Thanks, glad my backside still does it for you. ;-)

It's all genetics, but I think I better start doing the gym, too. It's my best asset and I need to make sure it keeps me going for a few more years.

(2CW) Do you have a day job?

My whole world is pretty much adult biz since I have my own company.

(2CW) Now I see you are a BIG Harry Potter fan? Have you enjoyed the films? Are you a Ron or Harry fan? Which one would you do ? :)

Gosh, I know this sounds weird, but I'd like to do it with Ron, Harry AND Draco....and the black boy. Would be fun to have all flavors at once....red-head, dark-hair, blondie, dark-skinned. YUM. Um, and to clarify: I would only do them now that they are all of legal age.

(2CW) How do you like to relax?

Reading a good book is great. Also, I love to do crosswords.

(2CW) OK - onto the somewhat controversial stuff - you appear in bareback porn now and have started your own bareback porn production company. There is a dichotomy in the gay community that we LOVE to watch bareback porn - the studios that produce bareback porn are NOT going hungry - and yet we have a virus in the community that is spread by bareback sex. There are three camps at the moment. Those pro-condom ONLY, those pro-personal choice, and those who support bareback porn. What are your thoughts on barebacking and the more contentious issues such as "bareback porn spreads HIV" - "barebackers should be ashamed because it spreads HIV" - etc. Feel free to go into as much detail as you wish.

Definitely personal choice. As a performer, I hated the idea of a company telling me what kind of porn I could or could not do. With that said, a performer should be responsible enough to provide an HIV test if asked. And if the person IS positive, he should be responsible and only do a film if his viral load is undetectable or low. And to take it a step further beyond HIV, a performer shouldn't knowingly show up with syph or gonorrhea, etc.

(2CW) We have now seen mainstream studios like Jake Cruise and Chaos Men and others producing bareback content - but with the AIM warning (meaning their models are tested within an inch of their lives). Do you think there is a double standard that exists in porn? Especially if we bring hetero porn into the argument as they haven't used condoms in porn EVER I don't think.

Yeah, a double standard for sure. It's not a gay disease, as we've been reminded for over two decades now.

(2CW) Have we become complacent with HIV education? There is a misperception out there that HIV is now simply a chronic illness that no one dies from. Young gay and bi guys seem to have an attitude that "If I get it Ill take the drugs and I'll be fine". Do you think we are keeping them as informed as we could about HIV, Meds, Side Effects etc?

Not sure it's complacency so much as there is an incredible desire for us to enjoy the pleasure of how real, raw sex feels. But its all such a personal decision, and unless there is a return to people dying in mass numbers and in ugly ways, the option to take medication in order to enjoy bareback sex may be more attractive to some.

(2CW) Now for the 2 Cents quickies..................

I am best as a bottom, but I have just recently started topping, too...and MMMMM, IT FEELS GOOD!

LOVE it Raw

One or one / or Group? ...........................
I like one on one the best, unless the group is all tops lined up ready to fuck me

Public or Private? ............................
Both

Fave part of the day for sex? ........................
Love waking up to a cumload to my butt.

I get off to the amateur stuff.

Favourite Drink? .............................

Favourite way to relax? ......................................
A nice rubdown by experienced hands.

If a guy sees you out at a bar, what should he NOT do to get your attention? .......................
He shouldn't cut me off by blocking my way to wherever I am going. And if I am standing still, he shouldn't invade my personal space too quickly.

(2CW) Sean - it has been an absolute pleasure having you here on the blog. And I hope that will consider coming back and doing a Part 2 for us. There are SO many more questions I could ask but didn't want to be too pushy :)

Absolutely any time you want me, you can have me. ;-)

Well there you have it 2 Center's - I look forward to reading your comments and ask that - as always - you be the respectful visitors to this blog you have always been, even if you disagree with any of the points in this profile.

.......................Today on 2 Cents Worth Down Under we have Adam Reynolds form The Healthy Boy - a blog devoted to nutrition and good health and one of my new must reads. Adam's site http://www.thehealthyboy.com/ is a fantastic site that has excellent information, tips and advice regarding nutrition, weight loss, working out, and general health and well-being.

And he's Australian - which is always nice on this blog :)

So please welcome Adam to the blog and surf on over and check out his site with all it's sensible, timely and healthy advice.

(2CW) Welcome to 2 Cents Worth Down Under Adam and thanks for agreeing to do the profile.

Thank you Damien. So happy you are enjoying reading my blog.

The man himself - Adam

(2CW) So how did you get interested in nutrition/good health, and how did an Aussie lad like yourself end up in the USofA working in Nutrition?

I wasn’t always interested in health and nutrition. I used to have no muscle tone, ate terribly, and had a spare tire around my waist. One day I read a book which changed the way I eat and look at food, and joined a gym and never looked back.

I moved from Sydney to New York three years ago to study and pursue my career in acting. When I completed my studies at acting school a year ago, I headed over to Los Angeles where I signed with an agent and started doing what so many other young Aussie actors do, audition, audition, audition.

(2CW) How did The Healthy Boy get started?

Well after about 6 months of auditioning and spending my days submitting for casting after casting, I quickly realized that I needed do something outside of acting to keep myself occupied and not go insane, so I decided to do something with my next big passion – nutrition and fitness.

I started working as a research assistant for a celebrity nutritionist and started writing a blog. Mainly for my own personal use at first, but it quickly grew into something much larger than that.

I started blogging about things I found interesting and wrote articles about topics I thought the general public weren’t aware of, whether it was the fact that those “healthy” pinkberrys my friends were eating actually had more sugar than two cans of coca cola, or mistakes that people seemed to be making in the gym.

Now I’m not a personal trainer, nor am I a nutritionist, but I research topics I find interesting and ones I believe my readers will benefit from.

(2CW) Has it been well received? Do you have contributors to the blog that you work with?

It has been very well received. First my friends and family started reading it and found my articles eye opening and recommended it to their friends, Queerty heard about it and picked up my articles for a regular column on their site, and other blogs and websites have started recommending it to their readers. I’ve been voted a Best health Blogger from Wellsphere, my site has been voted as a Best Health Blog, and I have numerous companies and organizations contacting me daily to advertise and promote their products to my readers.

I’m not a personal trainer, so I do reply on some article contributions from two of my “gurus” – Tom Venuto and Mike Geary. Both are authors of best selling fitness books (Tom’s was the one that changed my life al those years ago back in Sydney), both are certified personal trainers, and they both write articles that my readers find beneficial.

(2CW) What are some of the mistakes people make with their nutrition? &, What are some of the simple, easy to adopt tactics for healthy living? Or is that too loaded a question :) ?

LOL no it’s not too loaded. You know, I think you hit the nail right on the head when you said “mistake”. You see I’m not necessarily writing for people who are extremely obese, or people who want to get really big at the gym. A lot of my readers are the average person who maybe has a little bit of weight they would like to lose, or a would like to gain a little more muscle. A lot of these people think they are eating healthy or performing the right routines at the gym, but actually aren’t and therefore aren’t seeing the results they want to see.

I recently wrote an article about Vitamin Water for example. Healthy individuals are drinking these believing they are doing themselves good, but if you drink one of these a day, it’s the equivalent sugar wise of eating 10 krispy kremes in a week! Not to mention it could cause you 13 pounds of weight gain over a year. Most people just don’t know this. These are the types of articles I write because I too find them interesting and eye opening and my readers love them.

Knowledge is power, and it’s the best tactic for healthy living. Do your research, turn over and read the nutritional labels, and you are well on your way to a better life. Avoid fried foods, sugar, high fructose corn syrup, and only eat whole foods.

(2CW) I lived in Orlando, Florida from 2002 - 2004 and traveled throughout the USA and one thing I was stunned by was the saturation of fast food outlets EVERYWHERE and how almost ridiculously cheap the food was. In contrast, the fresh food in many of the food markets were of poor quality, expensive, and certainly not what I was used to in Australia. It almost seems American culture is geared AWAY from good health.

Urgh, don’t even get me started on this. My blood starts to boil when I think about it. The fact is that so things are very backward in the world at the moment, whether we are talking about America or any other country for that matter. One of the things that is backward, and one of the reasons why obesity is an epidemic, and why children have a lesser life expectancy and higher risk of diabetes, is because fast food is so cheap and healthy food isn’t.

Fast food is so accessible and marketed so effectively that many people don’t know any better. People and families literally grow up eating the stuff and pass on these bad eating habits to their children who don’t stand a chance.

Time are also tough, and people need to stretch their hard earned money as far as possible. I mean if you have a family to feed and only $5 to do it, would you go to a fast food place where you can get a whole heap of food off these $1 menus, or would you head to Wholefoods and pay $5 for one head of broccoli?

I think things are slowly changing though. There are so many shows on TV these days aimed at educating people about health and fitness, losing weight and eating right, and even the First Lady Michelle Obama is pushing education for children to combat childhood obesity. There is still a long way to go though.

How do we change it? Well we as consumers have an incredible amount of power when to comes to choice. If we stop eating at fast food restaurants, and start buying more clean wholesome produce from our local grocery stores, then the prices for these items will start to reflect that and we will see those foods becoming more affordable.

(2CW) Did you find the fast food culture of the USA tempting when you moved there?

Not really. I used to allow myself a “cheat meal” once a week a couple of years ago where I would eat healthy all week and then once a week, normally on a Sunday, I would allow myself to “cheat” by eating junk food. I would normally head to McDonalds for some chicken nuggets and French Fries – a childhood favorite of mine.

But my focus has changed in recent years. For me it’s no longer about fat loss and muscle building, but about what I put into my body. I don’t eat packaged foods, bad fats or a lot of sugar. I avoid any foods that have any artificial chemicals or additives (fast foods are loaded with these), so I don’t eat them at all anymore, cheat day or not. I couldn’t even tell you the last time I walked into a fast food restaurant.

I also watched a movie “Food Inc” recently, which changed the way I look at, buy, and consume meat products. Now I’m a huge carnivore, I eat chicken like its going out of fashion and If someone told me I had to go vegetarian tomorrow I would probably have a heart attack, but this movie taught me how to look for and buy animal products that have been raised ethically and without hormones or antibiotics. Unfortunately most fast food restaurants use meat products that are heavily contaminated.

(2CW) The thing that many people comment on, and something I certainly know is true, is that fast food can taste SO damn good. It isn't always easy to give up the good taste.

You know what? It actually doesn’t taste better than healthy food. It’s just that people’s taste buds have become accustomed to eating large amounts of salt, sugar and fat which make up the majority of fast food. Once you start eating healthy, nutritious food and cooking things for yourself from fresh ingredients, you will never go back to fast food again.

But our taste buds and bodies are literally addicted to salt, sugar and fat. They are like drugs. Sure they make you feel good, but they are incredibly bad for you. It takes a lot to stop eating them.

Another thing to consider is how do you REALLY feel after you eat these foods. People say they taste good, but how do you feel 10 minutes or half an hour after eating them? You feel bloated, you feel lethargic, and feel guilty for eating it. Is it really worth it?

(2CW) In contrast many people say that good food doesn't always taste good. What piece of the puzzle are we missing when it comes to replacing the good taste of bad food with a healthy but tasty alternative? Do we just not know how to cook anymore???

I think people who say this simply don’t know how to buy or prepare healthy food For example when most people make soup they add a ton of salt and cream thinking they need it to taste good. I have an incredible butternut squash soup recipe that is made only from fresh vegetables and has no salt, fat, sugar or cream added to it that would knock your socks off.

(2CW) You identify as an ex-chocoholic. Does that mean you NEVER have a piece? If not, what did you replace it with?

LOL yes I am an ex-chocoholic. More so than that I am just an ex-junk food guy. I had a huge sugar addiction. I would eat a dozen candy bars in one sitting, half a cake in a matter of minutes, and a whole tub of ice cream in one night. Once I started I couldn’t stop. But yeah, chocolate in particular was my weakness.

It took a lot for me to stop bingeing on these foods but I did it. When I got to the weekend where I would normally pig out, I said to myself “Ok, you can eat as much food as you want, it just needs to be healthy”. So I didn’t diet, or deprive myself, I stuffed myself with healthy food (ones that I enjoyed eating of course like healthy sandwiches) until I was full and satisfied. I ended up losing a ton of weight and didn’t even think about chocolate.

I don’t really eat it all that much anymore. I will have the occasional treat or some cake at a birthday party for example or desert at a group dinner, but I just make sure it’s a small portion. I’m not one of those people who can a little bit per day and be ok, once I start, I can’t stop. So I’ve found only eating it occasionally works best for me.

You also need to enjoy what you eat, otherwise you wont stick to it or you will just be miserable. So it’s a matter of each person deciding what healthy foods and meals they really enjoy, and making them often so to reward themselves.

(2CW) Many people know the benefits from healthy eating but would argue that healthy eating is time consuming and they are simply too busy. People are working longer hours and find it harder to balance a career, friends and fitness.

You know what? It is time consuming and it is hard. But getting diabetes is harder. Taking medication every day for the rest of your life is harder. Spending money on expensive health bills is harder. Not seeing your children grow up is harder. Being unhappy with yourself and your life is harder…you get the point.

But like anything you can find tricks to making your healthy eating life easier. Buy read made salad mixes from the supermarket. Have a stash of almonds in your draw at work for snacks. Prepare you meals on the weekends in advance and refrigerate them or freeze them. If you live life on the go, it’s no excuse not to eat healthy, most to go cafes, food stands, and even fast food restaurants, do have healthier options such as wholewheat sandwiches, salads and lean protein options.

(2CW) Here are some 2 Cents quickies.............

Favourite Food............... eggs…any which way. Love em.

Favourite Drink ........... Green tea. Obessed with it. Drink it 5 times a day and get excited when I find a new version I haven’t tried (I know, I need a life)

Favourite Guilty Pleasure............Just one? Definitely Chocolate.

Where would you go for dinner with someone on a first date?................ Somewhere quiet and romantic with low lighting and a clear exit for a quick getaway.

What is a fast food that you used to LOVE to eat?.............................Chicken McNuggets with Sweet and Sour Sauce.

What is a healthy food that you absolutely can not bring yourself to eat? .............. I HATE tart yogurt. I just can’t stand the sour taste. Blah.

Would you date someone who doesn't share your attitude towards health?............. LOL it would depend on how much they didn’t share it. It would depend on the person, but I think a good attitude toward health is important whether I’m dating them or not.
